Faster journeys, optimised capacity.

GTS’ Dynamic Shuttle marries the flexibility and simplicity of our Share.car platform with the powerful data analytics and algorithms of our Drop.car technology to provide the most effective mobility solution on the market.

Our Dynamic Shuttle service is a form of microtransit that functions like on-demand e-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft. Instead of fixed stops, passengers are grouped together by travel time and destination. Passengers hail shuttles through the mobile app. The shuttle software’s AI capabilities dynamically route drivers to perform efficient pick-ups and drop-offs.

Compared to traditional shuttle services,
Dynamic Shuttle:

  • Makes journeys faster and more direct
  • Removes idle waiting at stops, for passengers and shuttles
  • Increases fleet utilisation and reduces fleet costs
  • Improves services and increases passenger numbers
  • Reduces congestion and reduces parking needs.

Microtransit services like Dynamic Shuttle are growing increasingly popular with municipalities and large commercial organisations for the cost efficient movement of individuals. Microtransit offers flexible routing and/or flexible scheduling of buses and shuttles. It uses instant exchanges of information, enabling an extra real-time matching of demand (trip) and supply (driven vehicle) on top of an in-advance matching, which extends the accessibility of the transit service. Possible pick-up/drop-off stops are usually pre-defined to allow better routes' optimization. Conceptually, microtransit fits somewhere between private individual transportation (cars or taxicabs) and public mass transit (bus). Microtransit can be operated on a fixed or flexible route, and by a preset schedule or on-demand schedule.

Microtransit works for Public Transport

Microtransit services like Dynamic Shuttle can address age old public transport challenges like the first/last mile problem as well as newer challenges, related to convenience,  raised by services like Uber and Lyft as well as the rise of remote working, shopping and banking. To compete with the greater convenience available to customers bus operators need to provide a better and more cost efficient service. Dynamic shuttle provides the reliability of a taxi service but at a much reduced cost, helping to reverse the decline in bus utilisation seen in many cities. The capacity to book trips on the fly from a mobile app allows operators to provide greater convenience and faster journey times to their customers. Our blog: How Can Microtransit Increase Public Bus Utilization details how Dynamic Shuttle can increase ridership across bus service.

One of the enduring challenges in transport is the first/last mile problem. Put simply buses and trains don’t run directly from peoples homes to their destinations. So how do operators get people to and from the main transit lines/routes efficiently. In certain circumstances microtransit can address these challenges by reducing the cost and increasing the speed of journeys such that the public transit service is more attractive than traveling by car. The Value of Simulators

Clearly the potential benefits of Dynamic Shuttle are very meaningful. However, setting up an on-demand micro-transit operation is a significant commitment of time and money so it pays to do your homework as much as possible and get On-Demand right the first time. One of the best ways to do this is with a simulation that can model various service scenarios and provide performance metrics like wait time and cost per trip for each scenario. Simulations can address the important concerns municipalities and transit agencies have when setting up and on-demand service. We have a good overview of what you should expect from and microtransit simulation here: Using simulators to access on-demand microtransit

Dynamic Shuttle - The Right Solution

Our dynamic shuttle platform has been designed to be highly configurable so that it be adapted to the unique transit challenges each operator has. Dynamic shuttle can reduce costs and journey times while increasing the frequency of service. Over time as more and more rider information is recorded our demand prediction algorithms enable us to deliver better and better results for transit operators and riders alike. If you'd like a demo or to speak to one of our microtransit consultants about your transit challenges please contact us today.
